Imperial Oil in More Hot Water
Imperial Oil, a partner in the industrial rail yard under construction by Cando Contracting Ltd. next to 2 wildlife conservation areas near Edmonton, Alberta, is feeling the heat lately over a number of other projects. One of these is the deaths of about 2,000 ducks killed as they landed on one of Syncrude’s tailing’s ponds near Fort McMurray, Alberta. Imperial is the second-largest owner of Syncrude. Just 3 days after Imperial Oil and the other Syncrude partners were fined over $3 million for the deaths of over 1,600 ducks in 2008, several hundred more ducks were killed when they landed on a Syncrude tailings pond October 25, 2010.
And, Idaho residents are angry because Imperial Oil wants to transport tar sands infrastructure along a highway through popular national forests and parks in the state. The infrastructure is headed for Imperial’s Kearl Oil Sands Project near Fort McMurray.
