First Petroleum Tank Cars Stored

Cando Contracting Ltd., Canadian National Railway (CN) and Imperial Oil started storing the first of 225 petroleum tank cars on November 5, 2010 at the rail yard recently completed next to homes, wildlife conservation areas, a golf course and an elementary school. Residents who live right next to the newly-completed industrial rail yard are concerned about the impacts the rail yard, the petroleum tank cars and locomotives will have on their health, safety, quality of life, property values, surface waterbodies, groundwater, two adjacent wildlife conservation areas, nearby golf course and elementary school. Residents are worried about oil, grease, solvent and other petroleum leakage and spills into local dugouts, ponds, marshes and creeks. They are also concerned about the noise and visual impacts of the rail yard.
