Rail Yard Fight has Just Begun

Residents who live right next to a rail yard that was just built and is now storing petroleum tank cars vow to continue their fight to get this ill-conceived industrial facility shut down. CN, Imperial Oil and Cando Contracting partnered to build this yard in southwest Strathcona County near Edmonton without any notice to local landowners, no environmental or socio-economic impact assessment, and no regard for anyone living in the community. Many federal laws, railway operating rules, CN policies, Imperial Oil policies and Railway Association of Canada guidelines have been breached to date. Residents are angry about how close to their homes this rail yard has been built, the health effects, the noise, the smell, safety, impacts on nearby conservation areas, and property devaluation. For details read this article in the Sherwood Park-Strathcona County News.
